Louis ARAGON (1897-1982). Autograph manuscript, [Le Rossigno - Lot 28
Louis ARAGON (1897-1982). Autograph manuscript, [Le Rossignol se tait à l'aube, 1970]; 6 pages in-4. First draft of an interesting article on the last novel of his companion Elsa Triolet, Le Rossignol se tait à l'aube (1970) published shortly before his death. "The nightingale of Europe, the one that sings in Romeo and Juliet, and which is for the Americans a mythical animal, is a reality, but which takes in the novel of Elsa Triolet the grandeur of fiction. Is it still an encounter that, turning to her, to our past, the narrator of The Nightingale chose to quote a line "There reigned a perfume of crickets and mint"... Even if Elsa quotes in this work several lines of Aragon, the latter specifies that it is not necessary to identify it specifically with the character of the husband, the novelist or the poet, even if the interpretations in this direction did not miss... He, who has quoted Elsa Triolet so many times in his work (in Blanche, in La Mise à mort), understands that Elsa's way of quoting him "is part of her practice of collage, as in painting, as I did a few years ago [...]. But I want to insist on the character of the dialogue thus established between her and me"... He develops this idea, illustrating it with numerous examples, and returns to the Nightingale is silent at dawn, which she wrote while he had just given to the editor The Rooms "that Elsa read again on the proofs. From there, no doubt, from this coincidence, come the "collages" [...]. But also from something else, from our common life, our long connection of all the moments, where it is the habit that the words of one come naturally to the other "... Later, he also returns to the influence of Borges in their work... Etc. We join a L.A.S., Saturday [Sept. 16, 1974], to Pierre Lhoste, with envelope: "Thank you [...] for not forgetting me and for following me"...
