Émile GUÉPRATTE (1856-1939) admiral. Autograph manuscript si - Lot 104
Émile GUÉPRATTE (1856-1939) admiral. Autograph manuscript signed, La Basse-Bretagne, considérée au point de vue marin, Brest 23 juin 1927; 18 pages in-4. Interesting article on the role and the influence of the sea, on "the high scope of the national interest that represents for the French Republic the Basse-Bretagne", and Brest in particular. Admiral Guépratte, who was a deputy from 1919 to 1924 and a member of the Académie de Marine, gives a very complete account of the port of Brest. He reports on the geological facts that formed this harbor "where entire fleets could find anchorage, and whose history is confused, since the Cardinal of Richelieu, with the history of our navy". He describes it in detail, traces its history over the centuries, and compares it with other ports. He then examines the situation of Brest from a commercial and maritime point of view and mentions in conclusion the possibilities opened by the electrification of the Breton region, which will be done "by subjugating the enormous power of the tides under the name of Green Coal"...
