Maxime DU CAMP (1822-1894). 12 L.A.S., mostly to Arthur Kratz, and one autograph manuscript, 1878-1892 and n.d.; 26 pages in-8. Enclosed is a file of letters and documents from the Kratz archives, concerning Du Camp's death and funeral, and the publication of his Mémoires. The correspondence with Kratz concerns in particular the preparation of his book Les Convulsions de Paris sur la Commune (1878). The manuscript (paginated 244 A to D) concerns the conduct of Louis Guillemois at the Ministry of Finance, which proves "that there are good people everywhere, even in the Commune"... A long letter (Christmas 1892) discusses the preparation of his Souvenirs littéraires, Mistral's candidacy for the Académie, and old age: "It would be very sweet to grow old and think that soon we won't hear any more about Panama, Carmaux and a bunch of dirty gibberish"... Enclosed is a file of letters and documents from the Kratz archives, concerning Du Camp's death and funeral, and the publication of his Mémoires.
