GONCOURT (Edmond and Jules). - Lot 62
GONCOURT (Edmond and Jules). Renée Mauperin. Paris : Alphonse Lemerre, 1875. - In-12, bradel embossed leather, spine and boards decorated with a japonisant pattern of flowers and leaves, paper lining and endpapers with snake scale motif, untrimmed, cover retained (E. Carayon). New edition containing an unpublished preface, illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the authors. A copy in a Japanese binding signed by Carayon, offered by the author to Raymond Gallimard, with a signed autograph letter from Edmond de Goncourt on the second white endpaper. This dedication post-dates the book's publication, since Raymond Gallimard, Paul's son, was born in 1883. It was probably a gift from the author to the young boy. Raymond was only 13 at the time of the author's death. Cracked hinges. Small tears and soiling to covers. Provenance: Raymond Gallimard, with consignment from Edmond de Goncourt.
