Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) The Velvet Sleeve. Circa 1904. Drypoint. 165 x 242. Breeskin 194. Fine proof on thin ivory watermarked laid paper (large shield), signed with initials in pencil. Long oblique tear in the lower right-hand corner of the sheet, slightly affecting the lower corner of the subject but not the signature, reinforced on verso. Annotation "C" and "n° 34" in H. M. Petiet's hand in pencil at foot of leaf. Full margins. Provenance: Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) then H. M. Petiet (1894-1980).
