[REVUE] - PICABIA (Francis). - Lot 199
[REVUE] - PICABIA (Francis).
Cannibale.
Paris: Au Sans Pareil, April 25, 1920. - Fascicule in-8, 238x157: (8 ff.), black cover printed in red. Stapled.
First of two issues of this Dada magazine founded and directed by Francis Picabia, "with the collaboration of all the Dadaists in the world".
In addition to Picabia, other contributors included Louis Aragon, Céline Arnauld, Tristan Tzara, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Jean Cocteau, Paul Dermée, Marcel Duchamp, Paul Eluard and Philippe Soupault.
"Although totally different in presentation from 391, Cannibale is nonetheless the most accomplished expression of Picabia's spirit, direct and virulent, above all a polemicist. The issue opens with a portrait of Tristan Tzara by Picabia, which is no more than a diagram, a pretext for inscriptions, the whole of which is an insult to the conventions of art" (Hugnet, Dictionnaire du dadaïsme, 1976, p. 40).
Copy printed on green paper, very well preserved despite a small loss at one corner of the cover.
