Light celadon nephrite carp, China, 19th century The fish is depicted standing on its curved tail, resting on troubled waves, head up, mouth, eyes and dorsal fin fin finely depicted. Stylized clouds are carved in relief near the fins and under the gills. Height: 10 cm Carved wooden base with foamy waves. This is probably an illustration of the legend of the carp that swims up the Yellow River to pass through the Dragon Gate and fly up into the sky and clouds to become a dragon. A symbol of perseverance, courage and determination.
