Painting mounted as a kakemono with a mountainous landscape, - Lot 184
Painting mounted as a kakemono with a mountainous landscape, Japan, ca. 1939
Painting in sumi e on silk in the sansui style, decorated with a lake and mountain landscape dotted with pine trees. On the right, a calligraphic text followed by two red seals. The inscription on the box lid describes "a wash painting of a seascape and fir forest by Kaioku". Calligraphic texts on the painting and in the box lid indicate the name of another artist Kakuin with, on the painting, the character 寫, utsushi, indicating that it is a copy. It is therefore most likely a Kakauin painting done in the style of Nukina Kaioku. The painting is dated in the fourteenth year of Showa (1939). The two dealer labels on the box also indicate the characters 鶴陰, Kakuin.
Sight size: 118.5 x 35 cm
Wooden box.
The calligraphic text is signed 鶴陰, Kakuin with two seals. This is the seal of Oda Yorozu, 織田萬 (1868-1945), who was a renowned judge and law professor and a great calligrapher.
