Large copper-alloy incense burner decorated with two figures - Lot 195
Large copper-alloy incense burner decorated with two figures and a Fô dog, China, 17th century
A barbarian holding the sacred jewel in his right hand is depicted on a raised terrace above a molded base imitating wavelets, on which a crab and a shell are floating. He is riding a Fô dog, his paw resting on a brocade ball. Below, another barbarian wearing the same pointed cap, standing on a smaller terrace, holds a shell in his hand. The figure straddling the dog is attached to the animal by two pitons, allowing access to the hollow body, which serves as a receptacle for use as a perfume burner.
