Round double-sided box in cinnabar red lacquer, China, late 18th - early 19th century Composed of two curved, fully carved parts. One is decorated with a servant standing behind a flat rock serving as a table on which a game of go, wéiqí, 围棋, is placed. Two scholars are seated under a large pine tree among rocks and plants. In the distance, a lakeside landscape and mountains, the sea represented by a background incised with waves. The other side shows two scholars, one holding a lingzhi scepter, standing in a landscape similar to the previous one. The interior is black lacquered. Diameter: 9.4 cm Minor accidents, missing parts and cracks.
