30 x 30 x 8.5 cm
Provenance :
Galerie Lahumière, Paris (label on back).
Born in Villeurbanne in 1930, André Stempfel built his work around a single color: yellow. An iconoclastic interpreter of geometric abstraction and honorary member of the MADI group since 1989, he has exhibited his work in Spain, Japan and several French cities. His work is held at the Centre Pompidou, Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris, the Arithmeum in Bonn, the Museo nacional de bellas artes in Buenos Aires, etc.
"Stempfel uses space as the content of the painting and the painting as the occupation of space. In this way, space is defined as proportional to the painting." (Stéphane Doré, Stempfel, Concerto pour silence et jaune Sénégal, 1994).
