History and provenance:
This painting was created in 1922 by Paul Jouve in preparation for the major exhibition devoted to him at the Haussmann-Danthon gallery in May of that year; some one hundred of the artist's works (drawings, paintings and sculptures) were shown on this occasion. The animal painter-sculptor then kept this painting in his studio, before offering it to the public again at the major exhibition devoted to him at the Musée de la France d'Outre-mer in 1955. Paul Jouve later presented it to the current owner's father.
