He postpones his visit to his "dear collaborator" until the next day, and is astonished to learn that Duponchel (director of the Opéra) "is going back to his old threat of putting us before Melle Bertin. He must have forgotten that he formally promised me that we would not be performed before the month of November, and that it was only on this condition that I granted him a six-week delay"... [Louise Bertin's Esmaralda was given on November 14 1836, and Niedermeyer's Stradella on March 3 1837].
