Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) (after) The Lodge. 1928. Aquatint by J. Villon. 210x265. Ginestet et Pouillon 661, printed in color. Very fine proof on japon, before the engraved letter, numbered and signed in pencil by Villon and annotated "contrôlée par Pierre Renoir" (son of the artist). Full margins, filled in at the head and foot by 20 mm. Edition of 200 proofs (before the Chalcographie print run), Bernheim-Jeune ed. Engraved plate based on the painting La Loge, one of the paintings exhibited at the very first exhibition of the Impressionist group at Nadar's in 1874, now in the Courtauld Gallery, London. The models are Edmond Renoir, the painter's younger brother, and Nini Lopez, nicknamed "Gueule de raie", a Montmartre model much loved by the artist, who appears here for the first time in one of his works.
