Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904). L.A.S. "E.G.", Baireuth August 18, - Lot 131
Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904). L.A.S. "E.G.", Baireuth August 18, 1892, [to Robert de Montesquiou]; 4pages in-8 filled with small, tight handwriting (mourning, slight cracks at folds).
Long letter on Wagner and the Bayreuth performances. He wants to share with his friend the emotions of these "radiant days [...] I am grabbed, lifted, violently, abruptly [...] from the black abyss into the whitest light [...] I can no longer think except in music [...] What a delight this Parsifal is, and the joy of milk detail: I can still see the divine grouping of this spear, pricked into the earth by the side of a road, shimmering lily, elegant shaft, abandoned to guard a clump of white camomile". Maurice Barrès is also in Bayreuth, "also moved, otherwise"; they have exchanged impressions... Gallé was unable to be received at Wahnfried, nor to meet Mrs. Wagner... Barrès is preparing a work on Ludwig II...
