Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942) - Lot 12
Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942) Black Butterfly, 1920 Mixed media. Mounted on canvas. Signed lower right. Annotated in the right margin. (Restoration to the shoe polish box. Misses. Tears). 159.5 x 120 cm Bibliography : Rennert, p. 219, no. 340. For this brand of shoe polish, Cappiello invented a character half devil, half butterfly, brush in one hand, shoe polish in the other! But what really catches the eye is the giant shoe he's standing in - an unstoppable poster.
