In 1794, after the death of Robespierre marked the end of the Terror under the Directoire, the wealthy threw themselves frantically into pleasures... Gilded youth baptized themselves "incredible and marvelous". Inspired by pagan antiquity, they dressed in light veils and oversized hats. What Cappiello draws in the monochrome grayness of an evocation of the Palais Royal, the place to be... A wonderful youth seen against the light.
