Engraved dies
A set of two burin-engraved copperplates by Yasuyuki Kihara (Japanese, 1932-2011), Effluve et Appui, 1984. Each 180 x 130 cm. Biffés with two oblique burin strokes at lower left, between which is the engraved inscription "Kihara '84".
Provenance:
Jacqueline de Champvallins (1923-2006), gallery owner and print publisher.
Born in Nayoro (Hokkaido province) in 1932, Yasuyuki Kihara, newly arrived in Paris, attended Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 from 1970. After graduating from Tokyo's Musachico University of Fine Arts in 1954, he became deaf as a result of meningitis, which had been poorly treated in childhood. From then on, he devoted himself exclusively to engraving, working exclusively with burin for the 41 years he lived in Paris, until his death in 2011.
