BOCCACE.
Le Decameron.
Lyon : Guillaume Rouille, 1558. - In-16, dark green jansenist morocco, ribbed spine, interior gilt roulette, red edges (19th century binding).
Important edition considered by Baudrier as "one of the masterpieces of Lyonnaise printing in the 16th century" (IX, p. 248), featuring the unabridged version of Antoine Le Maçon's French translation of Boccaccio's "Decameron", in a small in-16 format. Printed by Philippe Rollet, it is illustrated with a medallion portrait of Boccaccio on the verso of the title, different from that of the 1551 edition, and 10 woodcut vignettes at the head of each day, attributable to the painter, draftsman and embroiderer Pierre Eskrich (c. 1520-159.).
Copy from the library of the historian and novelist Antony Méray (1817-18..), with an autograph note on the flyleaf.
Used rubbing to binding. Title browned. Short upper margin with damage to running titles.
