First edition of this popular work, described by some as "Buffon for children". It was one of the books authorized by the government of the time for children's education.
The illustration includes 12 folding plates bound at the end of the last volume.
Spine slightly faded, some wear and tear. Worm damage to binding of last volume. Some scattered foxing.
