MONTPENSIER (Louis-Antoine-Philippe d'Orléans, Duc de). Mémoires. Paris: Imprimerie royale, 1837. - In-4, dark blue morocco, boards decorated with a wide gilt frame composed of a large scroll of stylized volutes intersected by a fleuron at the corners, set with fillets, edged inside with a chain and flowered spandrels linked by a floral scroll, crowned LP figure in the center, ornate smooth spine, interior gilt scroll, pink tabis linings and endpapers, pink edges (period binding). New edition of these memoirs, first published in 1824, printed in small numbers on wove paper by the imprimerie royale. The Duc de Montpensier (1775-1807) was the second son of Philippe d'Orléans and brother of King Louis-Philippe. His memoirs, beginning with a biographical note, cover the period from April 1793 to November 5, 1796, i.e. from his arrest in Nice to the day of his departure for Philadelphia. The edition is illustrated on the frontispiece with a facsimile of a profile of the Duc de Montpensier, drawn by himself and engraved by Dupont. A superb copy bound in the Imprimerie Royale's bookbinding workshop with King Louis-Philippe's cipher. There are several copies bound with this cipher; they were intended as presents for the royal family. Rubbing to hinges, corners and edges. Rousseurs.
