MAETERLINCK (Maurice). - Lot 151
MAETERLINCK (Maurice). La Mort. Paris: Bibliothèque-Charpentier, Eugène Fasquelle, 1913. - In-12, jansenist red morocco, ribbed spine, red morocco framing inside, decorated with a gilt roulette on the edges and a gilt skull and crossbones at the corners, pink silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (period binding). First edition. One of the first copies on japon, this one probably hors commerce, not numbered, justified: "Exemplaire sur papier du Japon imprimé spécialement pour." No name indicated. Enriched with an interesting L.A.S. from Maeterlinck, 2 pages in-16, April 23, 1921, addressed to a "Monsieur". "I have nothing written that I can dispose of at the moment, except, perhaps, "Les Fiançailles" 5 acts, sequel to L'Océan bleu. But I don't think it's wise to publish them before the performance. I'll talk to Fasquelle about it as soon as I see him." A very fine copy. Small split at the hinge of the first cover.
