SAMAIN (Albert). - Lot 180
SAMAIN (Albert). Œuvres. Au jardin de l'infante augmenté de plusieurs poèmes. Paris: Mercure de France, 1924. - In-8, 197 x 131: (2 blank ff.), 250 pp, (1 f.), printed cover. Green morocco, bold horizontal gilt fillet running across the center of the upper half of the boards and spine, smooth spine decorated at the bottom with a gilt mosaic coat-of-arms, double gilt fillet inside, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (period binding). New edition printed in an edition of 1,262 copies, this being one of 1,100 on vergé pur fil Lafuma. UNIQUE EXEMPLAIRE, with 10 original gouaches hors texte, signed "A. de Fleury" and dated 1926, of symbolist inspiration. The artist was Baron André Caron de Fleury (1863-1946), a little-known but talented artist, whose other works are known to have been decorated, either with drawings or gouaches in the book, or with painted decoration on the binding. This is the artist's personal copy, probably bound by him with his coat of arms and including his fine bookplate engraved after one of his drawings. The bookplate features his coat of arms alongside that of his wife, Marie de Maillé de La Tour-Landry. Hinge of first cover cracked. Rubbing to headpieces and light knocks to first board. Provenance: Baron André Caron de Fleury, with his bookplate and arms on the spine.
