In-8, mottled calf, cold-finish motifs on the edges of the boards, drawing like thongs in continuity with the nerves, spine ribbed, original drawings pasted on the linings, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved, case (period binding). Edition illustrated on the cover and on each page of the book with one or more color compositions by Léon LEBÈGUE (1863-1944). Limited edition of 220 copies, this one of 200 for subscribers, including a suite of illustrations on China paper. Enriched with two superb original watercolors signed by the artist, pasted on the back covers. These drawings are related to the story, but have not been reproduced in the book. Spine slightly faded and some wear. Some foxing on endpapers and suite. Recto of first leaf browned by cover.
