BOFA (Gus). - Lot 105
BOFA (Gus). Literary and extra-literary synthesis presented by Roland Dorgelès. Paris: Éditions Mornay, 1923. - In-8, 188 x 138: 22 pp. (43 ff.), illustrated cover. Lemon half-maroquin, vertical bold gilt fillet on boards, double ribbed spine decorated with four gilt fillets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Creuzevault). First edition of this collection of 40 color compositions by Gus BOFA (1883-1968), composed with great originality and inventiveness. In a single image, the artist succeeds in summing up the work of the writer represented: "The author sums up in a drawing the overall impression that a work has left on us, he succeeds in giving an appearance to what was in us only a confused feeling; more exactly still: he seeks to arouse, through a different process, the drawing, an emotion identical to that procured by the book" (p. 18). This work is the fourth in "La Collection originale", with an edition of 1,317 copies. This is one of 1161 on white laid paper, beautifully and soberly bound by Creuzevault. Small halo on the edge of the first cover, extending slightly over the spine. Provenance: Colette Creuzevault.
