Tan calf, wide vertical band of painted cold decoration and two wide horizontal bands of fawn calf underlined by two cold fillets extending from the nerves on the boards, spine with two wide nerves decorated with cold scrolls, framed in tan calf inside, yellow silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, case (period binding). Edition illustrated with 31 compositions by CHAS LABORDE (1886-1941), including two hors texte. This edition is of particular interest as it contains the very first drypoints by Chas Laborde, produced at the time under the direction of Daragnès. A precious copy, one of 9 printed on Whatman paper. On this paper was printed a single copy with all the original drawings, 5 copies numbered 2 to 6 and 3 copies reserved for Jean-Gabriel Daragnès, Pierre Mac Orlan and Charles Malexis, the latter not indicated in the justification. This is the copy reserved for Charles Malexis (1879-1959), director of the newspaper La Baïonnette, justified by the publisher, enriched with two suites of illustrations, on japon and on vergé, three original drawings, including one on tracing paper, used in the edition, and an autograph dedication signed by Chas Laborde to Malexis on the japon proof of the first plate. A fine copy in an unsigned contemporary binding. Spine slightly darkened and some rubbing. Provenance: Charles Malexis.
