Dark-brown morocco, double gilt fillet framing the boards, first plate decorated with a large mosaic cross in havana morocco, around which a beige and gray-green morocco snake is wrapped, spine ribbed with gilt fillet framing, dark-brown morocco framed inside, decorated with four gilded fillets intersecting at the corners to form a pattern of 9 small squares, the four corners entirely gilded, gray moiré silk lining and endpapers, gilded edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, case (E. & A. Maylander). Fine edition printed and illustrated by Jean Gabriel DARAGNÈS (1886-1950), featuring 24 original color woodcuts, including a frontispiece and 9 full-page woodcuts. Edition of 1,480 copies on Rives wove paper (no. 792). A superb copy in a mosaic binding by Émile and André Maylander. It is enhanced by a large original full-page watercolor signed by Daragnès. A perfectly preserved copy, despite the slightly lightened spine.
