Paris, Barcelone : Éditions Albor, 1947. - In-4, 332 x 255 : (34 ff. 2 first and 2 last blank), printed cover. In sheets, filled cover, in wooden wallet with title in red on first cover, and with red cloth ribbon ties. Goeppert & Cramer, no. 45 First edition of Jaume Canyameres's French translation of Ramon Reventos's two tales Le Centaure Picador and Le Crépuscule d'un faune. It is illustrated with 4 original full-page drypoints by Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973). "Encouraged by the success of "Dos Contes", the publisher considered a French version. Jaume Canyameres would translate it, and Picasso would supply four other engravings. In the summer of 1947, the text was printed, but the engravings were still missing. Picasso did not engrave them until February 1948, in Golfe-Juan. The first tale [...] is illustrated with two drypoints depicting the centaur pulling his master's cart and the centaur (picador and horse at the same time) wrestling with the bull. The second tale, [...] is illustrated with two drypoints depicting the faun playing the flute and the faun's death. Picasso penciled the cover, the title page of each tale, the lettering and, in the text, the poster announcing the bullfight of the picador centaur" (Cramer). Limited edition of 250 copies on Lana vellum, this being one of 230 numbered from 21 to 250. Spine of cover unravelled and largely missing. Cover boards heavily foxed, as always due to wood. Scattered foxing. Provenance: N. Harwich, with bookplate.
