Kajetan STEFANOWICZ (1886-1920) Portrait of a woman, 1912 Oil on canvas. Signed and dated upper right. Dated and located Paris on the back. Dedicated on the back (behind the stretcher, partly illegible): "[...] Ty klątw nie rzucaj na mą duszę bo serce biedne mam bezdomne / lecz że odchodzę w bezdusze - aż nazbyt prędko Cię zapomnę... / Kajetan Paris 1912". 65 x 60 cm After studying in Krakow with Jozef Pankiewicz and Jozef Mehoffer, Stefanowicz left for Munich, finally arriving in Paris in 1911. He entered the Ecole National des Arts Décoratifs, where he studied with Professor Ferdinand Humbert. He enlisted in 1915 and died on September 20, 1920, shortly before the signing of the armistice marking the end of the Polish-Soviet war. [POLONICA, POLISH ART]
