MANUFACTURE Jules DESFOSSÉ 1855 Le Jardin d'Armide Complete set of three panels, as presented at the 1855 World's Fair. Draughtsman: Edouard MULLER (1823-1876). Printed by the plate, in color. Height: 385cm Width of central panel in 5 strips: 81 + 4x65cm i.e. 341cm Width of side panels: 133cm each. Condition: excellent and very fresh colors, despite minor wear, stains and small tears around the edges. Bibliography: Odile Nouvel-Kammerer, Papiers peints panoramiques, Paris, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Flammarion,1990 p. 286 and 287. Sources of inspiration: The statue of Armide is a life-size reproduction of James Pradier's Pandora (exhibited at the Salon of 1850 and in London in 1851), with only the diadem replaced by bindweed. The foundry Labroue marketed this Pradier sculpture in 1856.
