In the wake of the Libre Esthétique movement, the society "pour l'art" founded in 1894 opened a gallery at 56 avenue de la Toison d'or in Brussels in early 1895, hence its name. Gisbert Combaz, for the poster he was commissioned to produce, decided to depict the Argo, in search of the said Toison... It's a model of sobriety and modernism - rigorous art nouveau. With just two solid colors - orange and blue - and a skilful ring to bring out the image's vibrancy, it's a masterpiece. Our copy is a rare first edition.
