Ovoid vase or lamp base forming a vase with a wide annular neck. Proof in polychrome glass paste; brick, black, gray-white. The rotating decoration titles the neck. Signed G. ARGY-ROUSSEAU on the body and marked France under the base. H.13,5cm
Bibliography:
Janine Bloch-Dermant - G. Argy-Rousseau, catalog raisonné des pâtes de verre - Les Éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 1990. Oiseaux de paradis lamp, with identical base to our work, referenced under number 28.21 page 219.
Please note:
It is conceivable that this model of lamp base was marketed as a vase, as its shape blends so easily with that of other vases by the artist; the reverse is also possible, as the artist may have taken a vase model and matched it with a lampshade, the Oiseaux de paradis lamp being totally atypical in the corpus of Argy-Rousseau luminaires.
