Handsome carved and gilded oak mirror, decorated with openwo - Lot 138
Handsome carved and gilded oak mirror, decorated with openwork bands and clasps in relief, foliage, garlands and flower falls, the shoulder angles with palmettes and canals, surmounted by busts in espagnolettes, the pediment with trophy of quiver, brandon bow and arrows, with phoenix figures; (probably a frame originally, the mirror brought back at a later date).
Louis XV period, circa 1725-1730.
H: 130cm, W: 77cm
The stylistic repertoire of this border directly evokes the entourage of the Agence des bâtiments du roi, founded in 1699 by André Legoupil, Marin Bellan, Pierre Taupin and Jules Degoullons. It is also reminiscent of Michel Lange, the sculptor who designed the borders for the Hôtel de Ville in Paris around 1730.
