[MEN'S MAGAZINE]. - Lot 170
[MEN'S MAGAZINE]. N° UN. Paris: Association de l'élégance masculine française, 1957-1967. - 20 issues in 4 folio volumes, 350 x 258. Bradel patterned half-silk, boards covered with period fashion illustrations, black chagrin title page, illustrated covers preserved (Ateliers Laurenchet). Complete collection of this attractive men's fashion publication from the 50s and 60s. Published by the Association de l'élégance masculine française from autumn 1957 to spring 1967, this colorful biannual magazine ran for 20 issues, most of them thematic: city and country elegance, the automobile, "dadas", men's departures, company stories, in the race, black tulip, harmony, etc. Under the direction of Amédée Duc, each issue presented "the tone of the present season and the tone of the season to come". The layout, full of fantasy, was the work of the talented Draeger studio. The Association de l'élégance masculine française brought together the houses of Armorial, Balmoral, Bourcat, Darbel-Everest, De Marly, Dial, Éminence, L'Aiglon, Mossant, Noblet, Régis Anley, Salmon, Saint-Joseph, the Fenestrier factories and the Société anonyme d'industrie cotonnière. A superb, smartly bound copy: the attractive binding fabric comes from the bibliophile's silk ties, and the boards are covered with illustrations from another fashion magazine of the period, L'homme, le maître tailleur by Darroux. Some foxing on the upper cover of one volume.
