Naphtali Hirz (Hartwig) WESSELY, Avot im Perouch Yayn Ha-Lev - Lot 480

Naphtali Hirz (Hartwig) WESSELY, Avot im Perouch Yayn Ha-Levanon [Treatise of the fathers with Yayin Ha-Levanon commentary]. Berlin, 1775. In-folio, full leather binding, worn. Boards decorated with cold-stamped fillets. Spine ribbed. Lacks of leather on spine and boards. Handwritten bookplate. This book received the approval of many rabbis, including the Noda Biyehoudah, who later vehemently opposed the positions taken by Wessely in his book Divré chalom ve-emet. Indeed, in the latter book, Wessely adopts positions close to the Haskalah and promotes a reform of Jewish education.
