Jacques Villon (Gaston Duchamp, known as) (1875-1963) - Lot 348
Jacques Villon (Gaston Duchamp, known as) (1875-1963)
Baudelaire (on base). 1920. Etching. 282 x 416. Ginestet and Pouillon 290. Perfect proof on strong cream vellum watermarked "bfk Rives", numbered and signed in pencil. Full margins. Edition of 50 proofs.
This engraving depicts a plaster sculpture of his brother, Raymond Duchamp, which was in the artist's studio in Puteaux, among other objects dear to him. The bust was exhibited at the Armory Show in 1911. The engraver's feat is to have rendered the model using only parallel straight bites, but crossing them and playing with the intensity of the bite.
