Silver necklace adorned with a fleuron motif cut with foliag - Lot 58
Silver necklace adorned with a fleuron motif cut with foliage, centered on a flower set with old-cut diamonds and calibrated rubies, set with rose-cut diamonds. Ottoman work, late 19th century. Height: approx. 6cm. Gross weight: 22.4g (missing, bumps) A late 19th century Ottoman necklace The influence of Japanese art and civilization on the arts in France and Europe developed during the second half of the 19th century. This trend, known as "Japonisme", enriched the European artistic vocabulary, not only in terms of techniques, but above all in style and expression. This phenomenon is evident in jewelry, with the use of enamels and characteristic motifs such as the chrysanthemum. The bracelet we offer is in line with this Japanese trend. The central element features the shakudo technique, totally unknown in the West, which consists of highlighting gold or silver (shibuichi) motifs on a background of dark copper alloys. Japan produced large quantities of small shakudo objects for the international market in response to this craze. The combination of shakudo and Moorish-style inscriptions that surround it and run the length of the bracelet makes for a highly exotic piece of jewelry typical of the period.
