Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) - Lot 52
Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) L.A.S. with drawing, May 30, 1959; 1page in-4 (27 x 21 cm) on Santo-Sospir letterhead. Self-portrait occupying the entire page, in black pencil and red ballpoint pen. Around it, Cocteau has written in red ballpoint pen: "They're bugging us all, and here come the gypsies with atomic trailers and television in the crapper, we'll have to win and die. I love being confronted with your images. Poor guys! They know nothing of the beauty of exchanges. How our old friend from the Sistine would have loved to photograph his maneuvers perched on flimsy planks. Dali is right to say that Leonardo only worked according to the photographers". CCC p. 69, and reproduced in Documents. Lots 24 to 68 are sold by provisional auction with the option of reunion.
