*Attributed to Claes Cornelisz MOEYAERT (Durgerdam 1591 - Amsterdam 1655) The Meal at the House of Simon the Pharisee Pen and brown ink, brown wash, on varnished paper. (Slightly oiled). 18.9 x 29.8 cm Provenance : - George Guy Greville, 4th Earl of Warwick, his stamp lower right (London 1818-1893 Warwick) (Lugt 2600). - Anonymous sale, Sotheby's, Amsterdam, November 4, 2003, no. 17 (as attributed to Moeyaert). - Sale from the collection of Professor Eric Stanley (1923-2018), Christie's, May 27, 2020, no. 31. The drawing, characteristic of Moeyaert's style, can be compared with a Last Supper, sold in Amsterdam (Sotheby's, November 16, 2005, lot 6; see W. Sumowski, "Zeichnungen von Lastman und aus dem Lastman-Kreis", Giessener Beiträge zur Kunstgeschichte, III, 1975, p. 181, n. 41). At the Christie's sale in 2020, the notice states that the attribution was confirmed by Astrid Tümpel, in a letter dated December 4, 1975, in which she emphasized that the version in the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett was in fact a copy and not an original drawing as suggested by Sumowski (inv. KdZ 13379; ibid., p. 156-157, fig. 9).
