Auguste Vimar (1851-1916) - Lot 463
Auguste Vimar (1851-1916) The Vimar Automobile. Interior poster. 1897. Photomechanical process. [515x400]. Color printing. Very fine proof on thin ivory vellum, doubled on strong white vellum and canvas-backed. Poster announcing the release of the eponymous work, published by Le Figaro, and featuring a page from the book. The children's book recounts the peregrinations of two British globe-trotting reporters and their automobile, assigned by their newspaper to cover a tribal conflict in Southern Africa. In his treatment of animals with human behavior, Vimar is the precursor of Benjamin Rabier.
