"First edition in Latin, of this collection of natural history treatises by Italian physician, naturalist and poet Francesco Redi (1626-1698).
The work is divided into three distinct parts. The first is a translation of "Esperienze intorno a diverse cose naturali", originally published in Florence in 1671. The second section presents observations on vipers, formulated in the form of letters to Laurent Magalotti, chamberlain to the Grand Duke of Tuscany, taken from the Italian edition of 1664. The third part includes a letter by Francisco Redi, addressing objections to his Observations sur les vipères, addressed to Alexander Morus and Pierre Michon Bourdelot, translated from the 1670 edition. The set concludes with a short treatise entitled "Observationes, Circa illas Guttulas & Fila ex vitro," presented here for the first time, translated from the author's original manuscript.
The edition is illustrated with a frontispiece and 14 engravings, including 12 out-of-text and 2 full-page.
Soiling to binding, small tear to head cover.
Provenance: Pierre Lambert, with bookplate."
