RENÉ BUTHAUD (1886-1986) - COLLECTION FRANCE CRUÈGE DE FORCEVILLE Two nudes; Djenné in the background, unique piece, our work having been sent to the Galerie Rouard on April 25, 1931 for the Exposition Coloniale organized in Paris that same year. Exceptional and important ovoid vase resting on a broad-necked talonet, cylindrical at its base, finished as a tray. Proof in high-fire glazed ceramic; the polychrome and palladium decoration on an ivory ground with a fine network of cracks - the rich, thick and stony glaze. Monogrammed R. B., with interlaced letters applied with a brush under the base. Height: 31cm Provenance: France Cruège de Forceville; close friend of the artist, who was his best man at his wedding; daughter of Pierre Cruège, designer, close friend and biographer of René Buthaud. France Cruège de Forceville is the author of numerous publications and curator of exhibitions on the Bordeaux ceramist, a recognized specialist, CNE expert and collector of his work. Exhibition: Our work was sent to Galerie Rouard on April 25, 1931, during the Exposition Coloniale held in Paris that same year. René Buthaud was awarded a gold medal. Please note On only two or three occasions did René Buthaud depict famous sites on his vases. Djenné for our work and the Duomo of Florence on a piece now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design in Bordeaux.
