Germaine Krull (1897-1985) - Lot 124
Germaine Krull (1897-1985) Passage du Caire. Shower baths. Quai de l'Hôtel-de-ville and Pont Louis-Philippe. Playing the organ at the Pigalle theater. Paris, c. 1930. Four (4) vintage silver prints. Stamps "Copyright by - Germaine Krull - Paris" (3) and "Germaine Krull - Mention obligatoire" (1), annotations and indications of cropping (3) on versos. Sizes: 13.3 x 8.5 to 22.5 x 15.3 cm Provenance : François Lepage Collection, Paris. On three of the prints, the page numbers "343 and 344" refer to Jean Warnod's Visages de Paris, published in 1930 and illustrated, among others, with images by Germaine Krull. Technical indications on the versos suggest the use of photogravure prints from the book. In addition, the view of a shower-bath façade is one of the few photographs chosen by Walter Benjamin to punctuate his famous Petite histoire de la photographie, published in 1931.
