JACQUES INNOCENTI (1926-1958) - Lot 53
JACQUES INNOCENTI (1926-1958) Mother and daughter and a horse, 1956 Rectangular decorative panel for hanging. Glazed ceramic proof; the title decoration is treated in polychrome on a black background. Signed and dated Jacque INNOCENTI 1956 on the back, for an early label with handwritten note 31 on the back. Height: 37cm - Length: 13.5cm After graduating from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1948, where he met his future wife Nydia, Jacques Innocenti moved to Vallauris, where he began production as a potter-ceramist - first at the Grand Chêne pottery, owned by his parents, Odette Gourju (1904-1955) and Lyuba Naumovitch (1898-1955), then in his own workshop (before taking over the Grand Chêne due to their tragic death in 1955). His work, both utilitarian and artistic, is characterized by finely painted or incised sgraffito decorations - figurative or decorative - and the refined use of pastel-like engobes.
