JACQUES INNOCENTI (1926-1961) IN VALLAURIS The Conversation Baluster vase. White glazed ceramic proof; the outlines of the figures are treated in reserve in the manner of rings. Circa 1950. Signed J. INNOCENTI Vallauris under the base. Height: 28.5cm Provenance: Galerie Riviera, Nice: Galerie Riviera, Nice. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1948, where he met his future wife Nydia, Jacques Innocenti moved to Vallauris, where he began production as a potter-ceramist - first at the Grand Chêne pottery, owned by his parents, Odette Gourju (1904-1955) and Lyuba Naumovitch (1898-1955), then in his own workshop (before taking over the Grand Chêne following their tragic death in 1955). His work, both utilitarian and artistic, is characterized by finely painted or incised sgraffito decorations - figurative or decorative - and the refined use of pastel-like engobes.
