PHILIPPE (Jean-Loup) - SATO TESSEN (Ichiro). - Lot 150
PHILIPPE (Jean-Loup) - SATO TESSEN (Ichiro).
Encre.
[Paris] : Éditions Arichi, [2010]. - 200 x 200 : (14 ff.), printed cover.
Original edition of this poem, illustrated with 4 original Indian ink drawings on Japanese paper, by Japanese artist Ichiro SATO TESSEN (b. 1947). One of these drawings is on a double page. Each work, carefully laminated, bears the artist's signature and date on the reverse.
" Ichiro Sato-Tessen, a Japanese artist born in Tokyo in 1947, lives and works in Japan. His rapid, spontaneous pictorial gestures reflect his state of mind and the present moment. His calligraphic technique consists of drawing a single, continuous stroke, without a break, embodying the spirit as vital energy in motion. By concentrating his mind, forgetting the self, and letting his hand be guided by divine energy, he seeks to express this vital force in each stroke. His aim is to achieve a profound harmony between the act of painting and the inner state, making each work a page from his life, an authentic manifestation of his inner world" (text based on that dedicated to the artist published on the Galerie Akié Arichi website, www.galerieakiearichi.com/expositions-passees/vide-et-plein).
Limited edition of 35 copies on wove paper, including 5 artist's proofs, all signed by the author and illustrator in the colophon. This is copy number 1, printed on Arches vellum except for two leaves, which are on Rives vellum.
