Jean Siméon Chardin (1699-1779) (after)
The Cabaret Boy. 1740, engraved by C. N. Cochin. 220x278mm. Bocher 22. Fine proof on laid paper, washed. Persistent traces of glue at the edges on verso. Old inscription in sepia ink on verso, practically erased. Small margins.
The original painting was exhibited at the Louvre in 1738, under the title Un petit tableau représentant un garçon cabaretier qui nettoye un broc. A version of this subject, formerly in the Marcille collection, is in a private collection, and reappeared at the 1999-2000 exhibition in Paris and London. Another version is in Glasgow's Hunterian Art Gallery.
