Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) Under the Horse-Chestnut Tree. 1896-1897. Drypoint and aquatint. 288x407 [442x510mm]. Breeskin 162; Mathews-Shapiro 20. Printed in color. A very fine trial proof on "Adriaan Rogge" watermarked laid paper, with very fresh and vivid colors, prior to the edition of 45 proofs for L'Estampe Nouvelle, unsigned. Two horizontal tears in the left and right margins. Small ink stains and normal waviness at the edges of the folio. Full margins. Provenance: Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) then Henri Marie Petiet (1894-1980).
