Large quadrangular baluster vase in gilt copper alloy and polychrome cloisonné enamel, China, Ming period (1368-1644) In fanghu form, inspired by archaic bronzes, the neck and foot of the vase are flared and the shoulder is flanked on two sides by a handle in the shape of a Buddhist lion mask holding a mobile ring in its mouth. The vase is decorated with several superimposed horizontal friezes alternating on each side an archaic-style decorative register on a turquoise-blue, dark green and black background. The center of the body features a large Taotie mask between two bands of small polychrome flowers. The shoulder shows two mythical animals facing each other, and the neck features a frieze of banana leaves and stylized clouds in the shape of a ruyi head. Two auspicious objects adorn each side of the foot. The interior features a removable pewter receptacle with two movable rings for holding water. Height: 40 cm
