Small statuette in partially gilded copper alloy, Sino-Tibet - Lot 213
Small statuette in partially gilded copper alloy, Sino-Tibetan art, 18th-19th century Probably representing Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Seated in padmasana on a double lotus base, hands on knees, in meditation. The austere-looking figure wears a monk's robe and a five-pointed crown. The presence of a beard and moustache make him look like Master Shabdrung Ngawang Namgya, founder of Bhutan, but the five-pointed tiara prevents confirmation. In the current iconography of this figure, this is not the usual headdress. Height: 11 cm; weight: 222 g
